The Big Sandy Community and Technical College Ready to Work and Work & Learn Programs hosted the Career/Survival Skills Conference on the Mayo Campus, April 20, 2007. This event was geared toward both current and prospective students. The conference and follow up events were presented to 55 participants from Johnson, Floyd, Pike, Martin and Magoffin counties. Six programs were offered in two one hour sessions on this day. The programs offered and the presenters were: Welding with John McKenzie, HVAC with Eric Campbell, Basic Home Repair with Mike Froman, Basic Automotive Skills with Roger Owens and Joe Stewardson, Gardening with Jeff Hicks, and Mary Kay with Paula Arms and Barbara Howard. All events were presented by faculty members and BSCTC alumni. This conference was set up to provide prospective students an opportunity to showcase the college and the programs it has to offer non-traditional students. Also, it is to help them obtain information that will offer them a new level of self sufficiency through each session they attend.
